The Salmonberry is widely praised for its exceptional, farm-to-table dining experience combining seafood, pizza, and cocktails with a strong emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Reviewers frequently highlight the quality of the house-made dishes, including seafood, pasta, and pizza, which many consider among the best on the Oregon coast. Guests appreciate the friendly and attentive service, often noting that slight wait times do not detract from the overall experience. The restaurant’s scenic location with stunning coastal views adds to its appeal, making it a favored spot for both locals and visitors. Despite minimal signage, word-of-mouth has proven a powerful driver of its steady patronage and reputation as a hidden gem in Wheeler, Oregon.

This was an exceptional find while staying at the cute motel next door!! The service was friendly, the pizza delish, and the wine quite tasty. I would eat here again, and again!

In a tourist community, if you want a good restaurant, you eat where the locals and suppliers eat. On the north Oregon coast that place would be The Salmonberry. The food is amazing-- homemade pasta cooked to perfection and sauced with locally sourced seafood, meat, and vegetables (even seaweed!), house made sausage, the best oysters on the coast, local cider, and homemade desserts to die for. (Where else does the pastry chef forage for her ingredients?) And oh my gosh the pizzas alone would be worthy of a visit. Prices are in line with other nice restaurants, but at Salmonberry the portions match the prices. Last week, I ate there with a friend and we shared one app, one salad, one pasta, and one dessert, and we still had leftovers to take home. The menu changes frequently depending on local harvest and I have yet to order anything I wouldn't order again. Favorites: I had a black and blue ribeye that was THE BEST steak I've ever eaten. (I’m afraid to order steak anywhere else now.) Try any salad but when local tomatoes come in, order two. The dulse seaweed laced bucatini with clams is a local favorite you have to try. Unless lamb is on the menu, then get both. Vegetarian options are available too. Kudos to the Chef and staff for the variety and quality of the menu! All that great food wouldn't need a fantastic sunset, water view, or a great staff and a casual fun atmosphere. But Salmonberry has that going on too. BTW, like many Portland and local restaurants, you order at the counter and grab your own silverware. Please don’t complain about this while you are standing in line. If it bothers you, go eat someplace else. Really your biggest challenge with Salmonberry is you will want to order everything. Not a bad problem to have!

Great food, great view! Best pizza ever! Update after 2 years: We’ve been back here so many times and this is the best pizza in the US! I’m allowed to judge since I’m European. (and yes, I’ve tried all great pizza places across the US including Chicago and NYC).

Such a treasure for the coast! Living & working on the Oregon coast our elevated dining experiences are limited. Farm to table beautiful food with an incredible view of the Nehalem is top tier. Running a business on the coast myself, I completely understand & am used to short staffed situations. The sides always come quickly, so I never mind waiting a little longer for the pizza. Perfection isn’t supposed to be fast. I care way more about the care taken in preparation & the local ingredients utilized.

It has reopened. The views are gorgeous. We have tried a few different pizzas and salads here. This is our go to place now for pizza. Staff is friendly and wanting to please. The most interesting thing is really no signs to let anyone know it is a restaurant let alone open. I almost think that is done on purpose. We found out it was open though friends. So word of mouth seems the advertising! Highly recommend.

They reopened, and I’m thrilled about it. The ambiance is gorgeous, right on the river in front of the gorgeous view of the Nehalem bay. Contrary to the last person, I found the staff incredibly warm and the food as delicious as before. It’s not the cheapest place - but everywhere on the coast seems expensive and they feel right in line there. It’s worth your time.

Many have written at length about The Salmonberry. I will try to say something different here. I've always enjoyed my experience and consider this one of my favorite restaurants on the coast. My experience varies some with each visit and I've learned to expect and accept that. You have to "roll with it" here as a lot of how you're served is different than you may expect, starting with the line at the door to place your order and how menu items often sell out quickly. It just may be a pizza night, and that will prove to be fine. Your food will be served quickly and be very good. Though the bartenders are highly competent, the bar offerings are surprisingly limited. A good attitude will serve you well here as the staff will always try to please, if you'll just let them. Of course arriving earlier, in addition to the prospect of a beautiful sunset view, may afford you better odds with what remains available on their blackboard menu. My bottom line: Go experience The Salmonberry!

Best place on the coast. Would be happy being my last meal. Can’t sleep thinking about my next Salmonberry visit
